Robotics in the Construction Sector: Trends, Advances, and Challenges

Abstract Construction robots employ cutting-edge technology to perform tasks more accurately than traditional construction workers, producing higher-quality results and fewer mistakes. Moreover, although construction robotics is a demanding topic in construction sector research, more review studies that track and anticipate adoption trends are required in the construction sector. This study aims to bridge this gap by identifying the adoption challenges and limitations of construction robots and the opportunities offered to the construction sector. To achieve this aim, the study adopts a systematic literature review approach using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) protocol. Additionally, the systematic literature review focuses on the framework for categorizing technological advances and potential trends in development over the past decade. The review results reveal that: (a) current robotic technology covered four critical perspectives including perception, mobility, manipulation, and collaboration; (b) promoting the sector requires attention to safety and ethical issues because of the risks associated.

De plus, bien que la robotique de la construction soit un sujet exigeant dans la recherche du secteur de la construction, d'autres études d'évaluation qui suivent et anticipent les tendances d'adoption sont nécessaires dans le secteur de la construction. Cette étude vise à combler cette lacune en identifiant les défis et les limites de l'adoption des robots de construction et les opportunités offertes au secteur de la construction. Pour atteindre cet objectif, l'étude adopte une approche de revue systématique de la littérature en utilisant les éléments de rapport préférés pour les revues systématiques et le protocole de méta-analyses (PRISMA). En outre, la revue systématique de la littérature se concentre sur le cadre de catégorisation des avancées technologiques et des tendances potentielles du développement au cours de la dernière décennie. Además, aunque la robótica de la construcción es un tema exigente en la investigación del sector de la construcción, se requieren más estudios de revisión que rastreen y anticipen las tendencias de adopción en el sector de la construcción. Este estudio tiene como objetivo cerrar esta brecha mediante la identificación de los desafíos y limitaciones de adopción de los robots de construcción y las oportunidades ofrecidas al sector de la construcción. Para lograr este objetivo, el estudio adopta un enfoque de revisión sistemática de la literatura utilizando los elementos de informe preferidos para las revisiones sistemáticas y el protocolo de metanálisis (PRISMA). Además, la revisión sistemática de la literatura se centra en el marco para categorizar los avances tecnológicos y las tendencias potenciales en el desarrollo durante la última década. Los resultados de la revisión revelan que: (a) la tecnología robótica actual cubrió cuatro perspectivas críticas que incluyen percepción, movilidad, manipulación y colaboración; (b) promover el sector requiere atención a los problemas éticos y de seguridad debido a los riesgos asociados.
