Uncertainty Towards the Disease of Family Caregivers of Patients in Palliative Care: A Scoping Review

Objective: To know the development of the scientific evidence on the uncertainty towards the disease of family caregivers of patients in palliative care. Materials and methods: A descriptive scoping review. A search was conducted in the Embase, ScienceDirect, Medline, Academic Search Complete, Scopus databases, during the 2000-2019 period. The following MeSH terms were used: uncertainty, palliative care, end of life, nursing and caregiver. Fifty articles were selected after the criticism process. Results: Five thematic nuclei emerged: characterization of uncertainty in the caregiver, factors influencing uncertainty, resources to manage uncertainty, uncertainty assessment, and therapies and interventions to approach uncertainty. The higher scale of evidence is found in the characterization of uncertainty in the caregiver, and the voids direct the development of Nursing interventions on the uncertainty of the caregivers of individuals in palliative care. Conclusions: Although the factors influencing uncertainty towards the disease of the caregiver are widely explored, the evidence on the interventions that may help to reduce uncertainty towards the disease is still limited.

Objectif : Connaître l'évolution des preuves scientifiques sur l'incertitude vis-à-vis de la maladie des aidants familiaux des patients en soins palliatifs. Matériels et méthodes : un examen descriptif de la portée. Une recherche a été effectuée dans les bases de données Embase, ScienceDirect, Medline, Academic Search Complete, Scopus, au cours de la période 2000-2019. Les termes MeSH suivants ont été utilisés : incertitude, soins palliatifs, fin de vie, soins infirmiers et soignant. Cinquante articles ont été sélectionnés après le processus de critique. Résultats : Cinq noyaux thématiques ont émergé : caractérisation de l'incertitude chez le soignant, facteurs influençant l'incertitude, ressources pour gérer l'incertitude, évaluation de l'incertitude et thérapies et interventions pour aborder l'incertitude. L'échelle de preuve la plus élevée se trouve dans la caractérisation de l'incertitude chez le soignant, et les lacunes dirigent le développement des interventions de soins infirmiers sur l'incertitude des soignants des personnes en soins palliatifs. Objetivo: Conocer el desarrollo de la evidencia científica sobre la incertidumbre hacia la enfermedad de los cuidadores familiares de pacientes en cuidados paliativos. Materiales y métodos: una revisión descriptiva del alcance. Se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos Embase, ScienceDirect, Medline, Academic Search Complete, Scopus, durante el periodo 2000-2019. Se utilizaron los siguientes términos MeSH: incertidumbre, cuidados paliativos, final de la vida, enfermería y cuidador. Después del proceso de crítica se seleccionaron cincuenta artículos. Resultados: Surgieron cinco núcleos temáticos: caracterización de la incertidumbre en el cuidador, factores que influyen en la incertidumbre, recursos para gestionar la incertidumbre, evaluación de la incertidumbre y terapias e intervenciones para abordar la incertidumbre. La mayor escala de evidencia se encuentra en la caracterización de la incertidumbre en el cuidador, y los vacíos dirigen el desarrollo de las intervenciones de Enfermería sobre la incertidumbre de los cuidadores de los individuos en cuidados paliativos.
