Responsible entrepreneurship, social innovation, and entrepreneurial performance: Does commitment to SDGs matter?

Abstract In this study, we investigate the effect of responsible entrepreneurship on entrepreneurial performance through the mediating mechanism of social innovation. Further, we explore the moderating role of a firm's degree of sustainable development goals (SDGs) commitment on the relationship between social innovation and entrepreneurial performance. Data were collected from 220 firms in Ghana using a time‐lagged design. Our results show that responsible entrepreneurship has an indirect effect on entrepreneurial performance through social innovation. Moreover, the effect of social innovation on entrepreneurial performance is amplified when a firm's degree of SDGs commitment is higher. These findings contribute to the responsible entrepreneurship and social innovation literature.

Résumé Dans cette étude, nous étudions l'effet de l'entrepreneuriat responsable sur la performance entrepreneuriale à travers le mécanisme de médiation de l'innovation sociale. En outre, nous explorons le rôle modérateur du degré d'engagement d'une entreprise dans les objectifs de développement durable (ODD) sur la relation entre l'innovation sociale et la performance entrepreneuriale. Les données ont été collectées auprès de 220 entreprises au Ghana en utilisant une conception décalée dans le temps. Nos résultats montrent que l'entrepreneuriat responsable a un effet indirect sur la performance entrepreneuriale par le biais de l'innovation sociale. De plus, l'effet de l'innovation sociale sur la performance entrepreneuriale est amplifié lorsque le degré d'engagement d'une entreprise envers les ODD est plus élevé. Resumen En este estudio, investigamos el efecto del emprendimiento responsable en el desempeño empresarial a través del mecanismo mediador de la innovación social. Además, exploramos el papel moderador del grado de compromiso de una empresa con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) en la relación entre la innovación social y el desempeño empresarial. Se recopilaron datos de 220 empresas en Ghana utilizando un diseño con retardo de tiempo. Nuestros resultados muestran que el emprendimiento responsable tiene un efecto indirecto en el desempeño empresarial a través de la innovación social. Además, el efecto de la innovación social en el rendimiento empresarial se amplifica cuando el grado de compromiso con los ODS de una empresa es mayor. Estos hallazgos contribuyen a la literatura sobre emprendimiento responsable e innovación social.
