Factor Structure of CIWA-Ar in Alcohol Withdrawal

Objective. To identify the underlying factor structure of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, as measured with CIWA-Ar. Methods. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted on the items of CIWA-Ar. On 201 alcohol-dependent male patients seeking treatment for alcohol withdrawal at 36 hours of abstinence. Results. A three-factor solution was obtained that accounted for 68.74% of total variance. En 201 pacientes varones dependientes del alcohol que buscaban tratamiento para la abstinencia del alcohol a las 36 horas de abstinencia. Resultados. Se obtuvo una solución de tres factores que representó el 68,74% de la varianza total. El primer factor tuvo carga de cuatro ítems (34.34% de varianza), el segundo factor también tuvo cuatro ítems (24.25% de varianza) y el tercero tuvo dos ítems (10.04% de varianza). Conclusiones.
