Abstract We describe a new species of an ornithischian dinosaur, Isaberrysaura mollensis gen. et sp. nov. The specimen, consisting in an almost complete skull and incomplete postcranium was collected from the marine-deltaic deposits of the Los Molles Formation (Toarcian-Bajocian), being the first reported dinosaur for this unit, one of the oldest from Neuquén Basin, and the first neornithischian dinosaur known from the Jurassic of South America. Despite showing a general stegosaurian appearance, the extensive phylogenetic analysis carried out depicts Isaberrysaura mollensis gen. et sp. nov. as a basal ornithopod, suggesting that both Thyreophora and neornithischians could have achieved significant convergent features. The specimen was preserved articulated and with some of its gut content place in the middle-posterior part of the thoracic cavity. Such stomach content was identified as seeds, most of them belonging to the Cycadales group. This finding reveals a possible and unexpected role of this ornithischian species as seed-dispersal agent.

Le spécimen, constitué d'un crâne presque complet et d'un postcrâne incomplet, a été recueilli dans les dépôts deltaïques marins de la Formation de Los Molles (Toarcian-Bajocian), étant le premier dinosaure signalé pour cette unité, l'un des plus anciens du bassin de Neuquén et le premier dinosaure néornithischien connu du Jurassique d'Amérique du Sud. Bien qu'elle montre une apparence stégosaurienne générale, l'analyse phylogénétique approfondie réalisée dépeint Isaberrysaura mollensis gen. et sp. nov. comme un ornithopode basal, suggérant que Thyreophora et les néornithischiens auraient pu atteindre des caractéristiques convergentes significatives. El espécimen, consistente en un cráneo casi completo y postcráneo incompleto fue recolectado de los depósitos marino-deltaicos de la Formación Los Molles (Toarciano-Bajocian), siendo el primer dinosaurio reportado para esta unidad, uno de los más antiguos de la Cuenca Neuquina, y el primer dinosaurio neornitisquio conocido del Jurásico de América del Sur. A pesar de mostrar un aspecto general de estegosaurio, el extenso análisis filogenético realizado muestra a Isaberrysaura mollensis gen. et sp. nov. como un ornitópodo basal, lo que sugiere que tanto Thyreophora como los neornitisquios podrían haber logrado características convergentes significativas. El espécimen se conservó articulado y con parte de su contenido intestinal ubicado en la parte media-posterior de la cavidad torácica. Dicho contenido estomacal se identificó como semillas, la mayoría de ellas pertenecientes al grupo Cycadales.
