Nurses' communication with mechanically ventilated patients (MVPs) is very imposrtant assuring respect and dignity of the patients and dealing the patient like a human being rather than a body. OBJECTIVE: To explore the experiences and perspectives of nurses regarding communication with Mechanically ventilated patienst in the intensive care units of Islamabad Pakistan. STUDY METHODS The qualitative phenomenological study was conducted on ten participants, selected through purposive sampling technique for individual in-depth interviews. RESULTS: Six major themes of the study were recognition of communication experiences is essential for care, construction and interpretation of communication is situational, lack of speaking power led to feelings of powerless and frustration, nurses' responsibilities in the situation of critical care, impacts of verbal communication on the mechanically ventilated patient, and need for acceptance of knowledge and skills acquisition. CONCLUSION The current study highlighted experiences of nurses regarding communication with mechanically ventilated patients in the ICUs. The study findings further suggested the areas for improvement of nurses' communication with MVPs

La communication des infirmières avec les patients ventilés mécaniquement (MVP) est très impossible, garantissant le respect et la dignité des patients et traitant le patient comme un être humain plutôt que comme un corps. OBJECTIF : Explorer les expériences et les perspectives des infirmières concernant la communication avec les patients ventilés mécaniquement dans les unités de soins intensifs d'Islamabad au Pakistan. MÉTHODES D'ÉTUDE L'étude phénoménologique qualitative a été menée sur dix participants, sélectionnés par une technique d'échantillonnage téléologique pour des entretiens individuels approfondis. RÉSULTATS : Six thèmes principaux de l'étude étaient la reconnaissance des expériences de communication est essentielle pour les soins, la construction et l'interprétation de la communication est situationnelle, le manque de pouvoir de parole conduit à des sentiments d'impuissance et de frustration, les responsabilités des infirmières dans la situation de soins critiques, les impacts de la communication verbale sur le patient ventilé mécaniquement, et la nécessité d'accepter l'acquisition de connaissances et de compétences. CONCLUSION La présente étude a mis en évidence les expériences des infirmières en matière de communication avec les patients ventilés mécaniquement dans les unités de soins intensifs. La comunicación de las enfermeras con los pacientes con ventilación mecánica (MVP) es muy difícil, ya que garantiza el respeto y la dignidad de los pacientes y trata al paciente como un ser humano en lugar de un cuerpo. OBJETIVO: Explorar las experiencias y perspectivas de las enfermeras con respecto a la comunicación con pacientes ventilados mecánicamente en las unidades de cuidados intensivos de Islamabad, Pakistán. MÉTODOS DE ESTUDIO El estudio fenomenológico cualitativo se realizó en diez participantes, seleccionados a través de una técnica de muestreo intencional para entrevistas individuales en profundidad. RESULTADOS: Seis temas principales del estudio fueron: el reconocimiento de las experiencias de comunicación es esencial para la atención, la construcción e interpretación de la comunicación es situacional, la falta de poder para hablar condujo a sentimientos de impotencia y frustración, las responsabilidades de las enfermeras en la situación de cuidados críticos, los impactos de la comunicación verbal en el paciente ventilado mecánicamente y la necesidad de aceptación de conocimientos y adquisición de habilidades. CONCLUSIÓN El presente estudio destacó las experiencias de las enfermeras con respecto a la comunicación con pacientes ventilados mecánicamente en las UCI. Los hallazgos del estudio sugirieron además las áreas para mejorar la comunicación de las enfermeras con los MVP
