This work focuses on the Meknes aquifer, which constitutes the main water resource in the northern central region of Morocco. The groundwater fauna is to date largely unknown in the Meknes region. However, it contains many animal species, especially small crustaceans. The study aimed to correlate the physico-chemical characteristics of wells and springs with the aquatic fauna in these habitats. Two kinds of descriptors were used such as the physico-chemical analyses of water and faunistic sampling was consequently performed for one year at 10 stations. Multivariate analyses showed a significant difference between stations. The water quality, variable from one station to another, is undoubtedly not the fundamental determinant influencing the distribution of fauna. These results represent an important contribution to regional biodiversity and may influence mainly by local factors, especially the protection levels of the wells and springs. These results are a contribution to the knowledge of the regional biodiversity and suggest that biodiversity as well as the physico-chemical characteristics of the water could provide valuable ecological information on the groundwater ecosystems status.

Ce travail se concentre sur l'aquifère de Meknès, qui constitue la principale ressource en eau de la région centre-nord du Maroc. La faune des eaux souterraines est à ce jour largement méconnue dans la région de Meknès. Cependant, il contient de nombreuses espèces animales, en particulier les petits crustacés. L'étude visait à corréler les caractéristiques physico-chimiques des puits et des sources avec la faune aquatique de ces habitats. Deux types de descripteurs ont été utilisés tels que les analyses physico-chimiques de l'eau et l'échantillonnage faunique a donc été effectué pendant un an dans 10 stations. Les analyses multivariées ont montré une différence significative entre les stations. Este trabajo se centra en el acuífero de Meknes, que constituye el principal recurso hídrico de la región centro-norte de Marruecos. La fauna de las aguas subterráneas es hasta la fecha en gran parte desconocida en la región de Meknes. Sin embargo, contiene muchas especies animales, especialmente pequeños crustáceos. El estudio tuvo como objetivo correlacionar las características físico-químicas de los pozos y manantiales con la fauna acuática en estos hábitats. Se utilizaron dos tipos de descriptores, como los análisis físico-químicos del agua y, en consecuencia, se realizó un muestreo faunístico durante un año en 10 estaciones. Los análisis multivariados mostraron una diferencia significativa entre las estaciones. La calidad del agua, variable de una estación a otra, sin duda no es el determinante fundamental que influye en la distribución de la fauna.
