In 2019, following a workshop led by Fogarty International Center's Global Health Studies on the topic of childhood obesity prevention and the research synergies that emerge through cross-border collaborations, we convened a group of experts from the United States and Latin America to conduct a narrative review of the epidemiological literature on the obesogenic role of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the etiology of childhood obesity among Latino youth in the United States and Latin America. In addition to summarizing and synthesizing the results of research on this topic published over the past decade, we contextualized the findings within a life course biobehavioral framework to identify exposure-outcome relationships driven by research results, identify inconsistencies and shortcomings of the current literature, and discuss the role of policy regulations, all with the goal of identifying potential pathways for early obesity prevention in Hispanic/Latino populations.
