Los modelos lineales jerárquicos (HLM) representan una estrategia estadística fundamental para la investigación en psicoterapia, ya que permiten superar la dependencia de las observaciones que habitualmente se presenta en sus datos. Estos métodos son útiles para estimar el cambio, desagregar fuentes de variación y analizar efectos de predictores de distintos niveles de jerarquía. Debido a que la aplicación de estos métodos requiere de un alto grado de conocimiento técnico, aún inaccesible para muchos investigadores, el objetivo de este trabajo es presentar una guía para entender, aplicar y reportar los HLM para estudiar los efectos de la psicoterapia. Para ilustrar cómo aplicar y reportar los HLM hemos utilizado una base de datos clínica real. Diseminar estos métodos en Latinoamérica puede representar una contribución tanto para la investigación como para la práctica, mejorando la solidez de los estudios clínicos y desarrollando un conocimiento robusto para optimizar los procesos y resultados en psicoterapia.

Hierarchical linear models (HLM) represent a fundamental statistical strategy for psychotherapy research, since they allow us to overcome the dependence on observations that is usually presented in their data. These methods are useful for estimating change, disaggregating sources of variation, and analyzing effects of predictors at different levels of hierarchy. Because the application of these methods requires a high degree of technical knowledge, still inaccessible to many researchers, the objective of this work is to present a guide to understand, apply and report HLMs to study the effects of psychotherapy. To illustrate how to apply and report HLMs we have used a real clinical database. Disseminating these methods in Latin America can make a contribution to both research and practice, improving the robustness of clinical studies and developing robust knowledge to optimize processes and outcomes in psychotherapy.Translated Description (French)
Les modèles linéaires hiérarchiques (HLM) représentent une stratégie statistique fondamentale pour la recherche en psychothérapie, car ils permettent de surmonter la dépendance aux observations habituellement présentées dans vos données. Ces méthodes sont utiles pour estimer le changement, désagréger les sources de variation et analyser les effets des prédicteurs de différents niveaux de hiérarchie. Parce que l'application de ces méthodes nécessite un haut degré de connaissances techniques, encore inaccessible à de nombreux chercheurs, l'objectif de ce travail est de présenter un guide pour comprendre, appliquer et rapporter les HLM afin d'étudier les effets de la psychothérapie. Pour illustrer comment appliquer et rapporter les HLM, nous avons utilisé une base de données clinique réelle. La diffusion de ces méthodes en Amérique latine peut représenter une contribution à la fois à la recherche et à la pratique, en améliorant la solidité des études cliniques et en développant des connaissances solides pour optimiser les processus et les résultats en psychothérapie.Files
