Nasal Reconstruction for Chinese Patients: A Retrospective Study

Abstract This article reviewed our experience of Chinese nasal reconstruction over 12 years and evaluated the effect of expanded forehead flap both aesthetically and functionally. The special skin type and other anatomic features of Chinese patients was understood thoroughly during the treatment. This article thus catered for the need of multiracial nasal reconstruction. We analyzed existing clinical data and demonstrated a typical case in detail. The postoperative result supported our strategy which advocated the extensive application of expanded forehead flap, together with flip scar flap as the internal lining. The features of Chinese patients also prompted the use of costal and auricular cartilage. Emerging technology like 3D-printing would benefit nasal reconstruction from more aspects.

Résumé Cet article a passé en revue notre expérience de la reconstruction nasale chinoise sur 12 ans et a évalué l'effet du lambeau frontal élargi à la fois esthétiquement et fonctionnellement. Le type de peau spécial et les autres caractéristiques anatomiques des patients chinois ont été bien compris pendant le traitement. Cet article répondait ainsi au besoin de reconstruction nasale multiraciale. Nous avons analysé les données cliniques existantes et démontré un cas typique en détail. Le résultat postopératoire a soutenu notre stratégie qui préconisait l'application extensive d'un rabat frontal élargi, ainsi que d'un rabat cicatriciel rabattable comme doublure interne. Les caractéristiques des patients chinois ont également incité à utiliser le cartilage costal et auriculaire. Resumen Este artículo revisó nuestra experiencia de la reconstrucción nasal china durante 12 años y evaluó el efecto del colgajo de frente expandido tanto estética como funcionalmente. El tipo de piel especial y otras características anatómicas de los pacientes chinos se entendieron a fondo durante el tratamiento. Por lo tanto, este artículo satisfacía la necesidad de una reconstrucción nasal multirracial. Analizamos los datos clínicos existentes y demostramos un caso típico en detalle.
